Top Gear Overdrive

Another Racing game for the N64, has it been a failure? Or is it the first good Racer on the N64? Read on to find out.

Gameplay The gameplay in this game is a little screwed. I mean the steerng is just terrible when you first start to play, then as you keep playing the steering gets almost perfect (well at least in my case) Although the steering is a little loose it feels pretty good, alot better than Kemco's last Top Gear game Top Gear Rally. The steering gets really tough, though, when your either, a) far into the game with really fast cars. Or b) Your using a Nitro. Those are the only times the steering is bad. Yup.

Graphics Graphics, now this is where the game really shines. The car select screen is oh, so good! The in-game graphics are also swift. From the Shine the car gives to the backgrounds, this games graphics are by far the best for the Racers on the N64 console. But, however, there is a game that will probably beat them, either Top Gear X, or GT World Tour. In this game there are a lot of little secrets in the game put in for fun, like to T-Rex bones, many many shortcuts, and Money things that you drive over to get a little bit of money. Also, I am very pissed that they took out of this game that would have made this the greatest racer, 1) A replay mode, I mean when you've got a game with this good of graphics, you need a replay mode. And 2) A time trial mode, what the hell? It's been in every racer so far, why not this one?

Sound Wow, they (Kemco) got some band to do the music in-game and it kicks ass! You're racin through tunnels, cornfields and such, listening to alot of Hardrock! I ain't no fan of Hard Rock, in factI despise it, it's just that the music in this game is very well done and feels just right for this game. This game also features a bunch of quirky sounds, like when you run over a Nitro pad, it makes this weird "Honk!" sound. When you use a nitro the sound sounds right, it sounds like your going really fast and you can here the wind as you drive through it. I don't think there are many other notible Sounds.

Multiplayer I have'nt had a chance to play much multiplayer yet, so, this will be hard to write. All I know is two good things about it. 1) The game moves smoothly in Multiplayer. 2) You can do 4 player Championship mode, something most developers leave out.

Overall I think this game has a lot of spunk. I do! I think that this is one game that most people should pick up. I also think that if you do purchase this great game, you should really consider, if you have'nt already, picking up an Expansion Pack. I know not every one is going to buy this game, but I think it is a good choice to. Best Racer I've ever played. Good Job Kemco!
