O.D.T. (Or Die Trying) is coming to the Nintendo 64 courtesy of Psygnosis. Psygnosis has stated that the game offers the stylings of several different titles (including Tomb Raider and Mission: Impossible) and incorporates magical themes, a strong story line, an immersive environment, and RPG elements.
Set in the future, O.D.T. tells a tale of a city put at the mercy of an epidemic that is incurable by medicine. Captain Lamat sails his crew to retrieve a green pearl that has healing powers. Unfortunately, they crash in a wasteland inhabited by monsters and the crew must scramble to reclaim the pearl that has vanished from their possession. On top of that they must find parts to repair their ship or they won't have a way to get back home.
There are four playable characters (a mercenary, a soldier, a wizard, and a female fighter) each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Every character has a different path to follow. For example, the wizard may encounter a boulder that he can easily move with magic, whereas, the female fighter would have to find an alternate route.
Rather than emphasizing gunplay, O.D.T. sets its sights on the casting of spells, building of experience points, and strengthening of character attributes. In the beginning, each character is weak and unskilled, but as the gamer solves puzzles, defeats enemies and finds items, the character will accumulate experience points that can be distributed into the three attribute categories: Armor, Spirit, and Weapon Control. Players can learn up to 16 different spells and use four weapons that enable hand-to-hand combat. O.D.T. will feature an eight-level mission with seven sectors each and end-bosses to accompany them. The levels in the game are connected and designed for free-roaming and there are more than 40 enemies roaming the game's dungeon-like worlds at every turn.
