Castlevania

Gameplay When one wonders about Castlevania going 3D, I'm sure the first thing they worry about is how the classic series will control? Surely many people must feel that the move to 3D would be a disaster, as a Castlevania fan i too had these doubts. Well folks, I'm glad to anounce that it moves like a dream. Schnieder (or Carrie) can perform slides, backwards hops and whip ememies with a general ease that i found very refreshing. Speaking about the whip, the game uses a nice targeting system so that your whip is never off by a few inches, it's always ready to swing at the nearest enemy(you're facing). Just remember, if you start playing this game right after playing Zelda, the controls may leave a little to be desired. This game is more like Tomb Raider in many ways and to be fair it controls much better. The camera however is just unacceptable, its the cause of half your deaths! Graphics Well, lets start with the bad. Minor fogging, horrible camera(at times) and a few bad textures. The good, great character design, nice storyboarding during cinemas and a nice layout to most of the levels. Not up to par with Zelda or Rogue Squadron overall but still quite nice! Sound Easily some of the best music on the system! Konami really did a bang up job, the violin tune at the start(you may recognize it from DraculaX) is chilling! If you're not blown away, chances are you own a PSX and you are accustomed to great music! The sound effects are nice too, and the spoken narrative at the beginning is a welcome surprise. Replay Value With 2 characters, a good and bad ending and a hard mode, those looking for a challenge needn't look further. The difficulty is faily high with schnieder(on hard though) and saves are placed strategically, so that noone should be crying that the game screwed them.
