Blast Corps

A runaway missile carrier threatens the world with an atomic holocaust!?! Thus sets the stage for Blast Corps, a masterful game by Rare which may have been looked over by many gamers. Take control over a large variety of vehicles to destroy all the obstacles in the carriers path. KA-PLOW... BAADOOOM!

Gameplay After playing a rather straight forward 1st level, involving a bulldozer and a small town, you will be introduced to several levels featuring much more unconventioal destructive devices. For instance the sideswipe, which as it's name implies can only destroy things which are at its side, or the Thunderfist(i think) which rolls over/dragon punches anything in its path. Each vehicle has different physics and quirks to make control different(especially the robots), some are just annoying though(sideswipe, ballista) and some which seem annoying(that damn dumptruck) become awesome tools of destruction when mastered. Gameplay takes a welcome break from all the destruction with a few race levels, they're not great but still a good distraction.

Graphics Rare has always been great at flashy graphics, Blast corps is no exception. Because of the top down perpsective theres no fog to speak of, which is good. The multi-colored explosions are quite nice looking and while the scenery is there its beautiful, too bad that it has to be blown up! My only gripe with the graphics is the extremely ugly 3D members of the Blast Corps, They pop their heads in during levels just to say 'good job' or something, also if you wait at the beginning of the game you'll get a better look. Ugly character design, they look like the people in the into for TR2 (anyone else think Lara Croft has the face of a chimp?), however it isnt that bad in the grand scheme of things.

Sound BAANG, KABLOOOOWIE! You get the point, nice sound effects. The music is like in all of Rare's recent efforts quite high quality(in terms of audio quality), however it is none the less very annoying. Also your ugly team members chime in from time to time with comments, nothing spectacular, just nice.

Replay Value Well, for a one player game, this game has alot to do. Beating it is not enough, you keep getting more challenges until finally you have to get the Platinum times! Let me tell you, they're all close to impossible to do!
